Student’s vehicle ‘Country Boat’
The Bangdukbanga Union Parishad of Rangamati sadar in Rangamati has a total population of 11,000. In this Union Parishad around 4,400 are hardcore poor and 289 are disabled for various reasons. Ward No. 7 of this Union Parishad is an area which is hard to reach and it is difficult to move in this area. Specially, students used to go to school by using small boats with life risk. There is no road communication, so there is no way for walking. If a boat was not available then students could not attend school. Especially they faced more problems in a rainy day. Union Parishad and guardians of students raised this problem in the budget meeting. The UP decided to solve this problem in 2014. Accordingly, the UP took a plan to make mechanized boat where 30-35 people can move together at a time. Locally it is known as a ‘Country Boat’. School peons or guards ply this boat for students and they are also in charge of its maintenance.
UP Member of ward No. 7 and local people developed a plan through discussion on solving problems faced by students. So, they took a decision to make a boat called ‘country boat’. School authority including Jagadish Chandra Chakma (Ex Teacher), President of the School Management Committee, was in charge of planning and implementation.
Students can move to schools safely, rest of the time it is used for movement of patients. Local students are able to move towards schools hassle free. Local people can use this other than school hour for any emergency reason. Even they use this for movement to Rangamati.
