APARAJITA : A Model for Political Empowerment of Women in Bangladesh
APARAJITA – Political Empowerment of Women is deeply conceptualized and implemented by Four Alliance NGOs, i.e., Democracywatch, Khan Foundation, PRIP Trust and Steps Towards Development, supported by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). This is an innovative and splendid model. The four NGO’s, through their deeper insights, have developed oneness in their strategies to harmonize ground realities, valuable experiences and capacities of individual organizations whilst working on the project. This has been meticulously designed through combined actions in interlacing expertise for a paradigm shift in the process of Political Empowerment of Women. These Alliance NGOs have designed this unique Model with a spirit of mainstreaming women from the local level for Political Empowerment, promoting Gender Equality and Constitutional Rights of Elected Women Representatives (EWR) and Potential Women Representatives (PWR) from the local communities for strengthening Local Government Institutions, upholding Networks of mutual support. This Model has immense potentials to enhance responsive and prompt local services for having significant impact on poverty situation through accelerating the process towards establishing a culture of accountable Local Government Functionaries.
Media Professionals Group, a media research, management and marketing company in Bangladesh, conducted an explorative study with an objective to unravel the dynamics of this model through involving Aparajitas. This analytical report is a telling account of 20 case studies. This, without an iota of doubt, can help and inspire readers to know how APARAJITA made meaningful difference in political, social and family life of women leaders in local government and in what way a woman can devote herself in these three areas in one breath.
